It is devastating when a marriage or relationship is falling apart. Maybe everyday stressors such as work, parenting, in-laws or financial issues get taken out on each other, which leave both of you feeling emotionally exhausted and disconnected from each other. You might even be ready to give up on the marriage or relationship.
One of the best ways to turn things around is to get professional guidance as soon as you can, so that you can learn specific skills to resolve your relationship difficulties, and bring you closer together again. Counseling can guide you in the right direction by helping you with communication skills, resentment and anger issues, as well as how to negotiate and compromise with respect and love.
What if my partner isn’t ready to come to counseling?
There is hope for your relationship, even if your partner isn’t ready for counseling yet, but you are willing to try. Together you and I can work on helping you learn what to say and do that will give you the best chance of getting your partner to listen and rebuild your relationship to what you had before when things were going well.
My best advice
My best advice is let’s start with one session (as a couple or individually), and get to know each other, and have a place where we can begin the process of helping the relationship to heal.
I know from many years of counseling that couples that do not do anything to help improve their relationship only make things worse, and dramatically increase the chances of their not staying together.
I am a licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Masters Degree from Rutgers University and Graduate training in Couples and Family Therapy. My two offices are located in Chester, NJ (Morris County and close to Warren and Sussex County) and Maplewood NJ (Union County and close to Essex County).
Give me a call whenever you’re ready. 888-281-5850
Free initial phone consultation
My fee is $150 per session. If you are serious about getting counseling, and would like to spend 15 minutes on the phone, without charge, I’d be glad to talk with you so I can help you to figure out what to do next.
Jump Start Sessions
There are two possibilities for our first meeting:
- Traditional meeting is 50 minutes.
- Jump Start session is 100 minutes.
The Jump Start session is very helpful for couples who :
- Are in crisis.
- Would like to move more rapidly through therapy.
- Have long standing, deep-seated problems.
- Need more then the average time to express their thoughts and feelings.
- Have a complicated story that they believe is important to be heard by me.
Click here to learn more about how the Jump Start Session works.
Please note that we can use the Jump Start Session for our first meeting and then go to a traditional session, or whatever way you both feel will be most beneficial to having your relationship move forward.
The key here is that we have flexibility, and together we can have the counseling fit you rather than have you fit into a rigid model.
