The Secret Toxin (Poison) in Stress (part I)
and what to do about it.
In the first blog of this series I will talk about what is good and bad stress; and will identify the element that makes stress so toxic. In the next blog, I will discuss strategies for effectively relating to that toxin.
There are a lot of positive things to say about stress, for example when we are in emergency situations, such as when a driver has to slam on the brakes to avoid an accident, our stress reaction causes us to respond more quickly. In addition, if nothing in your life causes you any stress or excitement, you will probably live a very boring life.
Stress like beauty is in the eye of the beholder, people have their own reactions to different situations; some will get very upset about something that an other person will not be at all bothered about.
It is clear that too much stress can be a very negative factor; it can seriously effect quality of life, emotions and even cause physical illness.
The Toxic Element in Stress
If we take a deeper look at what is toxic about stress it is about having more situations than we are emotionally able to sort out, strategize about, and ultimately handle in a positive way. When we don’t handle stress effectively it makes the situation(s) we are dealing with worse.
In the next blog we will talk about the main toxin of stress, which is overload, which is when too many things that are too intense are happening to us and I will share simple, effective strategies to prevent and handle that overload. .
